National Manufacturing Month

The 2020 DIDI Mfg Month in Cattaraugus County was celebrated in a similar fashion to National Mfg Day around the country – virtually!  Area manufacturers shared virtual tours of their facilities along with video worksheets, hands-on activities, and interviews.  CA-BOCES created a DIDI site where teachers and students have been able to access the videos and worksheets.  If you don’t have a CA-BOCES account, please visit our DIDIWNY YouTube channel to view our videos (thank you John and Sydney!)

Each year, many local manufacturers and colleges open their doors to area schools, welcoming students and teachers to tour their facilities. In October 2019, over 600 students from 16 area schools visited 16 manufacturers as well as Jamestown Community College and St. Bonaventure University. Students learned about the skills and education required to have a lucrative career right here in the Southern Tier. Activities included drafting, design, chemistry, measurement, welding, duct fabrication, using a press brake, fundamentals of electricity, and discovering the importance of essential non-technical skills. Our overview includes pictures, survey results, and helpful comments from area students.

Thank you for participating in this year’s Manufacturing Day!  Actually, Manufacturing Month is still in progress.  Schools continue to tour companies in our area, meeting with engineers, technicians, presidents, and CEOs, learning about the manufacturing opportunities in our area.  Please enjoy an overview of this year’s  Mfg Day as well as an overview of the 7th grade Portville Cutco Tour and an article from the Olean Times Herald.  More to come!
