The Girls in Manufacturing Day encourages girls to expand their skills in science, technology, engineering and math, with an emphasis on how these disciplines are all a part of manufacturing. Girls are introduced to professional women in the area who work for manufacturers. Girls in Manufacturing is designed to inspire girls to consider a career in advanced manufacturing.
What to expect during the day: Students registered for the program will participate in an immersive hands on experience where they will manufacture a product and learn the basics of the manufacturing process including:
Product Concept Phase: Participants provided a high level overview
Research Phase: Participants provided a high level overview
Product Design Development Phase: Participants provided a high level overview
Research & Development of the final design Phase: Participants provided a high level overview
Computer Aided Design Phase: Participants provided a high level overview
Computer Aided Manufacturing Phase: Participants provided a high level overview
Prototype Testing Phase: Participants provided a high level overview
Manufacturing Phase: This phase will take most of the day. Participants will use both manual and computer numeric controlled (CNC) mills and lathes.
Assembly Phase: Participants provided a high level overview
Feedback and Testing Phase: Participants provided a high level overview
Product Development Phase: Participants provided a high level overview
Final Product
Participants will be provided lunch. Participants will leave with a basic knowledge of manufacturing, the machining process, a product they create during the day and at T-shirt.
